Carpe Diem

Went to Grant Hyatt yesterday to go see “weareurope 10” which is a fashion trade show for upcoming and emerging European brands, hand-picked for their creativity and quality.  My friend’s cousin was actually one of the brand represented so I went to see them.  I saw some department store buyers as well as people from companies like Itochu.  The show was interesting since all the brands represented showed 3 looks each.  Saw some great outfits for the fall winter season.  But the biggest hit of the day was running into my “mentor”.  I call him my “mentor in the fashion industry” as he’s seen me through and has helped me from the time I was at Amazon trying to break into the fashion world.  I feel very fortunate to have been introduced to him.  Going to these trade shows always keeps me go back to my “roots” of why I like the fashion world so much and why I want to keep working in the industry.  And I do really hope that these designers would get their chance and NOT be overthrown by the fast fashion boom.

昨日はGrand Hyattで開催されていた、weareuropeという展示商談会へ！この展示会では新進気鋭のヨーロピアンファッションブランドで、クオリティとクリエイティビティに富んだブランド達が選ばれて展示してる。友達の親戚でロンドン在住の人のブランドが展示をしている事もあり、見にいってみた。百貨店のバイヤーとか伊藤忠とかの人もいたりで、なかなか頑張ってる展示会。ファッションショーは各ブランドから3ルックを見せる形式。自分目線で普通に「これ欲しいわー」って思うものもちらほら。でも昨日のハイライトは何と言っても私の「師匠」に偶然会った事。彼は私が勝手に「ファッション業界の師匠」って読んでる人なのだけど、A社にいて、ファッション業界に行きたい！と思っていた頃から人に紹介され、そこからずっと私のキャリアパスを見続けてくれた人。師匠に出会えて本当に心からよかったと思うし、紹介してくれた人には感謝の気持ちでいっぱい。こういう展示会に行くと、いつも初心に戻れる。どうして私がファッションが好きで、どうしてファッション業界で働きたいのか、ってのを思い出させてくれる。展示してるブランド達が日の目を見ることがあることを願いつつ、ファストファッションに負けるな！とエールを送りたい。と、切に思うのでした。
